A collection of my work as a carpenter, captured whenever I remember to step back and take a photograph. These images show moments in the process—from trim, window installation, and decking to exterior renovations, drywall repair, insulation, vapor barriers, and occasional ductwork.
Some projects involved working alongside a larger crew; most of the individual projects and tasks shown were completed personally by me.
Carpentry shapes how I approach property improvement: understanding the materials, paying attention to how each piece fits, and considering how the finished result will look and function. Whether repairing something small or contribwhole.
Repaired the exterior woodwork around existing windows as part of a broader project that also included stair and exterior rot repairs. These photos capture the work in progress, showing the fit and detailing of the surrounding trim and sill.
Repaired and finished the drywall in three skylight wells approximately 15 feet overhead. Work included setting up staging, smoothing surface imperfections with joint compound, and painting the wells and surrounding ceiling for a clean, consistent finish.
During a major remodel, the front door picked up a few conspicuous scratches. Although the entry was scheduled for replacement, I took the time to touch up the marks. A small improvement, but one that made the entrance easier on the eyes and a little more welcoming for everyone passing through while work continued.
A view of an older exterior wall being retrofitted with a window and a continuous air and water barrier (using ZIP System panels and vapor control layers), showcasing the process of planing and furring framing layers to ensure everything stays level and properly sealed.
A collection of repair and installation tasks involving bathroom exhaust vents, ductwork, ABS piping, and chimney connections. Often tucked behind walls or overhead, this work calls for careful fitting and attention to how each component connects within the existing space—another side of the practical problem-solving involved in renovation.
Removed deteriorated mortar and shaped a new patch around the connection. Once cured, I finished the joint with a flexible, heat-resistant sealant.
I joined this larger project at the wall and roof sheathing stage, then installed and flashed the windows and completed the exterior trim using Boral poly-ash boards.
The work featured here includes installing and flashing all windows, fitting window casings, and detailing the exterior trim along the rooflines and corners. Careful fitting and consistent lines bring the exterior together, while attention to flashing helps protect the work beneath the finish.
Following significant water damage, I repaired this ceiling with careful attention to the home’s historic character. Work began with dust containment and protection of the surrounding woodwork and floors, followed by removing damaged material, adding backing, and patching the ceiling. Surface preparation and painting brought the repair through to a consistent finish, preserving the details that give the space its character.
Completed brick-and-mortar repairs around a crawl space access opening and fitted it with pressure-treated lumber to provide access for plumbing work and future maintenance. Inside, I installed a vapor barrier across the ground and up the perimeter walls, helping control ground moisture and creating a cleaner space to work.
Completed the initial insulation and framing work for a basement conversion into a children’s playroom. I installed rigid foam board against the foundation walls and framed around existing ductwork and plumbing, preparing the space for its next stage of finishing.
My first major, long-term project after arriving in the Pioneer Valley began in winter. As part of a larger crew, my work ranged from digging and pouring footings—more than 30 across the project—to installing decking, fitting plugs to conceal fasteners, and installing cable railings and handrails. These photos highlight some of my contributions to a project that carried me from groundwork through the finishing details, through the challenges of a New England winter.
Replaced water-damaged sheathing and cedar clapboards and installed updated gable vents on both sides of the house, working nearly 40 feet above grade. The steep drop in terrain made access the biggest challenge, requiring a combination of lift equipment and ladders to reach localized wall repairs. The work called for careful planning and fitting replacement materials into the existing exterior.
My helper and I replaced fascia and subfascia behind the gutters after uncovering severe rot and animal damage. Working from pump-jack staging, we removed deteriorated material and fitted replacement boards to restore the roofline and provide sound backing for the gutters. The squirrels made their exit before the repairs were completed.
From small repairs to larger renovations, I bring a carpenter’s care and practical problem-solving to improving the spaces people use every day. These projects offer a glimpse of that work and the people I’ve worked alongside.
